Miami-Dade County Mayor's Executive Leadership Program
My last semester at FIU, Spring 2017, was truly one for the books.
I had the opportunity to be part of a select group of student leaders who participated in the Miami-Dade County
Mayor's Executive Leadership Program. This was a three part program which consisted of weekly meetings with top county executives,
a group project to address relevant issues facing our community, and an assignment to one of the county's departments.
Through this internship I gained incredible knowledge about local government, as well as what it takes run the largest county in the state of Florida.
This internship program granted me the opportunity to meet top county leadership, including Mayor Carlos Gimenez,
Deputy Mayor Russel Benford, Chair Commissioner Esteban Bovo, as well as over twelve county department directors.
PortMiami - Cargo Development Internship
Under the Miami-Dade County Mayor's Executive Leadership Program I had the honor to be assigned as Cargo Development Intern at PortMiami.
My interest for International Business and International Political Economy was sparked throughout this internship, as I was able to
gain practical knowledge on the many aspects that make this world more interconnected through global trade.
I was also able to assist the PortMiami Cargo team in over 25 meetings with leaders from around the globe
in which the main goal was the promotion of trade and commerce.
Overall, interning at PortMiami has been an incredibly rewarding experience from which I hope to start my professional career.
Global Ties Miami - Program Assistant Internship
During my Junior year at FIU I interned for Global Ties Miami, a non-profit organization that works under
the Department of State's International Visitors Leadership Program. During my time in
Global Ties Miami I was able to coordinate meetings with local community leaders from public and private sectors.
These meetings served to showcase Miami's many social, cultural and economic aspects.
Through my time in Global Ties Miami I discovered the rich heritage that makes Miami a hub for the international exchange of ideas.
Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce
During my Junior year at FIU I also had the opportunity to intern for the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce.
During my time at the chamber I was in charge of managing existing and new memberships for local and international businesses,
this opportunity exposed me to the inner-workings of international trade and the importance of developing strong business ties with overseas markets.
In addition to grasping a deeper understanding of the importance of commercial ties, I was able to assist in
over a dozen events. One such event granted me the incredible opportunity to meet Former President of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe Velez.
