During the Spring semester of 2015 I had the incredible opportunity to Study Abroad
while participating in a Student Exchange Program to the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in Spain.
Through my six month stay, I went from being a girl filled with insecurities to being a confident women who
craves adventure and seeks to understand the things that make us all citizens of this world.
Before studying abroad I had a clear identity as a Colombian-American; however, after my time in Europe
I discovered a whole new side of me, a side that felt connected and grounded to the world as a whole.
Not only was I able to discover breathtaking places, but I was also granted to opportunity to breakdown some of
the most typical stereotypes. This became exceptionally clear during my first time visiting Germany, when the stereotype of
Germans being cold and rude was completely debunked by nothing but kind and helpful German people.
My time in Europe is marked as one of self discovery, in which I had the chance to become the best version of myself.
Through this incredible journey I gained a greater scene of cultural understanding and acceptance.
I discovered a strong, confident girl who is not scared of the unknown and has
a deep appreciation of the differences that make us all so unique.
