And so, at the end we only regret the chances we didn't take...
Four years ago, before beginning my undergraduate degree, I would have never imagined the incredible journey I was about to embark on.
Through my time at FIU I was fortunate enough to take part in some of the most rewarding and enriching experiences.
During my time as an FIU student I had the opportunity to gain priceless knowledge
through FIU Global Learning courses. These include some of my favorite subject areas like Intercultural Communication,
International Political Economy and International Protection of Human Rights, among others. These courses didn't only provide me with
a deeper knowledge of the many interconnected dimensions that make up our world, but they also laid a foundation for what I was to
experience during my time abroad. Thanks to a wide range of globally focused courses, a semester abroad and
rewarding internship opportunities I was able to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a citizen of the world.
The most valuable skills I gained through my international and cultural experiences have been a greater sense of
self-awareness and an unprecedented amount of personal development. From gaining the confidence
to step out of my comfort zone, to feeling at-one with the world around me, my time as an FIU student
has truly had a direct impact in my life as a whole. As a global citizen, I have the responsibility to make a stance on the issues
that we are faced with as a global community. With a greater sense of belonging, setting the example and leading by good deeds,
I believe my generation can play an active role in leaving this world in better shape than what we found it in.
Utilizing the skills I have gained through my journey as a global citizen, I will continue to strive towards greater cultural
understanding in hope of ruling out misconceptions and shedding light on the issues that have so far
divided us as brothers and sisters. Being able to have the opportunity to address global challenges
has pushed me to pursue a Master's Degree in Global Affairs abroad,
because once you are done challenging yourself, you are done..
